J. Fred Walter, age 86, of Logan, Ohio was surrounded by his loving family when he went to his heavenly home Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home-Ilesboro, Ohio after a brief illness.

Born August 3, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio he was the son of the late Fred and Lucy (Hattle) Walter.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Anna Louise (Poff) Walter of Logan, Ohio; son Fred N. (Kristy) Walter of Logan, Ohio; two daughters, Teresa (Gene) Waterman of Melbourne, Florida and Midge Walter Mowery of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Ann Mowery (Bob) Heubner, Heidi Beth Mowery, Heather Mowery (B.J.) Fleming all of Iowa, Tina Louise Blosser of Melbourne, Florida, Todd Frederick Blosser of Ellenwood, Georgia, Fred V. (Lisa Brooks) Walter, Jessica A. (Evan Bazell) Walter and Chase N. Walter all of Logan, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Lukas Doherty, Jonathan Heubner and Gabriella Fleming all of Iowa, Jacob Sims of Melbourne, Florida, Brice Blosser of East Cynthiana, Kentucky; one great-great grandson, Aidan Doherty; brother James (Carol) Walter of Pataskala, Ohio; two sisters Martie ( Dale) Longstreth of Pataskala, Ohio, Anna Lee West and Lenny Bush of Newark, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walter was a retired dairy and beef farmer and had worked for Carborundum and North American Rockwell. Fred is a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran having served as a pilot and training navigators for the Army Air Corps. He was a loyal supporter of Logan High School Athletics and Chief Logan FFA and devoted much of his life to the students.

Lifetime Member of AMVETS Post 1776, National Farmers Organization, National and Ohio Cattlemen's Association, Hocking County Fair Board; member of Logan Cancer Support Group, Chief Logan FFA Alumni, past board member of Hocking Valley Community Hospital and member of New Hope United Methodist Church-Gore, Ohio.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Smith and Kathryn Boehm, and three brothers-in-law Richard Boehm, Lloyd West and Glen Smith.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, March 15, 2009 at New Hope United Methodist Church, Gore, Ohio with Pastor David Rohrer and Pastor Carolyn Hoskinson officiating.

Burial will be in Jersey Cemetery, Jersey Township, Licking County, Ohio following the funeral service.

Friends may call Saturday, March 14, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
