    Janina Ewa Matthews, age 90, of Logan, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio at her daughter's residence.

    Born June 29, 1919 in Lwów, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius Henryck and Maria (Chimiak) Dachs.

    Mrs. Matthews supported and worked as a team with her late husband, Dr. Jan S. Matthews, who passed September 8, 1999, in his medical practice.  She and her husband simultaneously received their doctorates as a married couple from the University of Innsbruck, Austria.  Mrs. Matthews was a member of Saint John Catholic Church, Logan, Ohio, the John Paul II Foundation, The American Center of Polish Culture, Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America for General Sikorski, and a life member of American Contract Bridge League, where she became a Silver Grand Master.  Janina was a wonderful cook who enjoyed gardening, reading, solving Polish crossword puzzles, taking walks in all seasons with her late husband, and lap swimming at Lake Logan. She truly cherished her time with her family and friends and found great peace and comfort in the twenty-third Psalm.

    She is survived by one son, John M. Matuszkiewicz of Logan, Ohio; two daughters, Dr. Basia (Roger) Jenkins of Knoxville, Tennessee and Dr. Wanda (Stephen) Boudinot of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Zbigniew "Bruno" Dachs of Melborne, Australia; five grandchildren, Dr. Sean (Lawson) Jenkins, Dr. Sasha Jenkins, Luke, Alyssa and Amelia Boudinot.
 
    Besides her parents and husband, four sisters, Irena Conrad, Adela Jaszczyk, Cornela Schneid, and Stacha Fliegel precede her in death.
 
    Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Saint John Catholic Church, Logan, Ohio with Monsignors William A. Dunn and James A. Geiger officiating.

    Friends may call Monday, October 5, 2009 from 6-8 pm at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio, where a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7:45 pm.

    She will be laid to rest with her husband in their homeland of Poland.
