E. Marieta (Cline) Brooker

E. Marieta Brooker, age 99 of Hilton Head, SC, formerly of Lancaster and Logan, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Village Cove Assisted Living Center, following a brief illness.

Born October 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late William and Clara Belle (Lingafelter) Cline.

Marieta was a wonderful mother to her children. She was also a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed hosting large and delicious holiday meals well into her early 90’s. Marieta was the “Treat Dealer” for her “Grand Dog”, Abbi. In her younger years, she enjoyed jogging, swimming and ice skating. She was an avid Ohio State Football fan to the very end! Marieta was a 1944 graduate of Logan High School and was employed by the City Auditor in Logan for many years. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Logan, then St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

Marieta is survived by her daughter, Julie A. (Dr. Robert) Mervis of Hilton Head, SC; daughter-in-law, Ingrind (Brooker) Smith; grandchildren, Laura (Douglas) Kunkle and Erika (Mark) Light, both of Columbus, OH; step-grandchildren, Kristi (Aaron) Pennington of Rockbridge, OH and Stacey (Christopher) Ballenger of Logan, OH; great-grandchildren, Mel and Maxine Kunkle and Marty, Calvin and Katherine Light; step-great-grandchildren, Lauren and Samantha Pennington and Lincoln and Jackson Ballenger; and multiple nieces and nephews, including Thomas Ball and Suzanne Morgan, both of Pickerington, OH.

Besides her parents, Marieta was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus A. Brooker; son, Melvin Brooker; brother, Russel Cline; and sisters, Mary Johnson and Connie Ball.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Logan, OH, officiated by Pastor Brian Delahant.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Roberts Funeral Home in Logan, OH.
