Emma Josephine "Jo" (Schmelzer) Proctor

Emma Josephine “Jo” Proctor, aged 97 of Logan, Ohio, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Carlin House in Logan, Ohio.

Born March 10, 1928 in Fairfield County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Emma L. (Leibig) Schmelzer.

During life, Jo was a loving homemaker as well as a telephone operator for General Telephone Company for 30 years. She was a proud member of St. John Catholic Church in Logan, Ohio. Jo was a Red Cross Volunteer at Hocking Valley Community Hospital and was active as a leader in Girl Scouts for several years. She was also active in the St. John Church Ladies’ Auxiliary and Hocking County Right to Life.

Jo is survived by her daughter, Marian Kay Gall of Logan, Ohio; son, Stephen Ermin (Cheryl) Proctor of Logan, Ohio; grandchildren, Ashley (Clint) Carpenter, Aaron Gall, and Olivia Proctor; great-grandchild, Alayna Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Douglas Proctor (2004); four infant children; son-in-law, Patrick Gall; sister, Rita Wolfinger; and brother, George Schmelzer.

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Jean-Luc Zadroga will be held at St. John Catholic Church in Logan, Ohio at 11 AM on Friday, April 11, 2025. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Logan, Ohio.

Visitation will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Logan, Ohio from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2025 with a Christian Vigil Service officiated by Deacon Donald A. Robers starting at 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the Proctor family suggests donations in Jo’s memory may be made to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130.
