George Douglas Hardin, aged 95 of Canal Winchester, Ohio, affectionately known as “Ebaw” to many, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 28, 1929, in Galena, Kansas, he was the son of the late George W. and Nora Hardin. George proudly served as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force. After serving his country for 20 years, he retired in 1968.
George is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Marie C. Hardin; and sisters, Georgine Dority and Peggy Smith. George is survived by his son, Darrell (Lisa) Hardin; two grandchildren, Rachel (Tyler) Kuhn and Douglas (Kellie) Hardin; five (and a half) great-grandchildren, Brooks, Sutton, and Hattie Kuhn, and Silas, Gretta, and baby Hardin, arriving in August. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him more joy than anything else in his life. He was a simple man and the world’s greatest listener. His favorite pastimes were chatting about the family business and life, and watching the little ones play. He came to life when they were around. Above all, his greatest pride and joy was his son, Darrell.
George is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Wheat, Barbara Sanders, and Carol Simpson, along with many other family members and friends.
George was an avid horseman and continued riding into his late 80s. He thoroughly enjoyed trail riding and camping with his horse club family, as well as his countless trips to the horse auctions. He also loved late-night card games with friends well into his 90s. His legacy will live on through the many memories shared by those who loved him. May he find eternal peace on endless trails. Ride on, Ebaw. We will carry your spirit with us always.
A graveside service officiated by Rev. John Romig will be held at Lithopolis Cemetery, 4365 Cedar Hill Rd NW, Lithopolis, Ohio on Wednesday, March 26, at 2:00 PM.
