Harley Goss Obituary

Harley Emerson Goss, 77, of Rockbridge, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at The Pickering House, Lancaster, Ohio.

Harley was a devoted and loving husband, dad, and grandpa. His family and faith meant everything to him. He was born on December 3, 1944 in the living room of the Goss family home in Rockbridge to Melvin and Josephine Goss. He was a graduate of Berne Union High School. Harley married Barbara Clark of Sugar Grove on August 13, 1964.

A devout Christian, he was a member of Rockbridge United Methodist Church and a long-time adult Sunday School teacher. Harley was a Good Hope Township Trustee for 26 years. He enjoyed woodworking, with a recent passion for woodturning; his works were displayed and sold at Homegrown on Main in Logan. Harley was also a long-time board member of the Hocking Valley Soil & Water Conservation Board. He also loved to cook, especially for his family.  Harley was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving four years. He spent most of his career in commercial sales, working as a Regional Sales Manager for Northrup King Seed Company before retiring from Goss Supply in Zanesville.

Harley is survived by his children, Johanna (Thomas) Pearce of Lancaster; Dwight (Rhonda) Goss of Chardon; Holly Goss (George Medley) of St. Albans, WV; and Keith (Bethann) Goss of Springboro, PA. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren, Keely Pearce; Haley (Al Anderson) Pearce; Katie (Donald Schroeder) Pearce; and Alaina Goss. Harley is also survived by his brothers, William “Bill” Goss of Lancaster and Rondel “Park” Goss of Rockbridge. Harley was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin “Bud” Goss and Daniel “Dan” Goss; sister, Beverly McVey of Logan; and his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara of Rockbridge, who died in April of this year.

The funeral service for Harley will be at Roberts Funeral Home, 60 West Hunter Street, Logan, Ohio, 43138 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John T. Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Whippoorwill Cemetery, Good Hope Township, Hocking County, Ohio.

Family and friends may visit from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harley’s memory to Rockbridge United Methodist Church, 10567 Jackson Street in Rockbridge, OH 43149; or Fairhope Hospice & Palliative Care, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Pickering House, Dr. Kwang Suh of OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and the doctors and staff at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
