James Michael “Jim” Simmons, aged 73, of Logan, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 9, 2023 at his residence. He was born November 16, 1949 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Lloyd Edward and Patricia Bernice (Byrnes) Simmons Sr.
Jim was a retiree of General Electric Company in Logan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. Jim and his late wife, Janet “Sue” Simmons (2022), had raised cattle and livestock on their farm for many years. They also took great pride in their enormous garden. He was a nature lover that always found time to feed the deer and birds. Jim liked to hunt and watch whatever football game happened to be televised when he was flipping channels, especially the Cleveland Browns. A true MOPAR man, he also ran in modified stock truck pulling events.
He is survived by two daughters, Mendy (David) Collins of McArthur, Ohio and Melissa Simmons of Logan, Ohio; three grandchildren, Austin, Sadie and Zac; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Waylon and Emory; and many friends.
Besides his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Edward Simmons Jr.; and sister, Patricia Ann Cremean.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 13, 2023 in Oak Grove Cemetery-Logan, officiated by Roseann Newton, where there will also be a military service conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Roberts Funeral Home- Logan.
