Jerry Hoy Obituary

Jerry Burdette Hoy, aged 80 of Pickerington, Ohio, passed away at Violet Springs Health Campus in Pickerington, Ohio on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Born  July 2, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Burdette and Marjorie (Jewett) Hoy.

Jerry grew up in Gore, Ohio and was a 1962 graduate of Logan High School where he played baseball and basketball.  He was a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church and a devoted volunteer with the Smith Chapel Food & Clothing Mission. Jerry worked as a professional truck driver, having retired from Keynes Brothers. In addition to trucking, he also worked at Ferd Hack Auto Supply for a number of years.

Until he was sidelined with medical issues, Jerry was an avid bowler and recreational golfer.  He loved to watch the Reds, Ohio State football, and just about any golf tournament.  In his prime, he was always looking for an occasion to make homemade ice cream. We were lucky enough to enjoy one last ice cream bash at his 80th birthday party in July.

Jerry loved music. He was a skilled guitar player and particularly loved playing surf music, but his range was quite wide.  He was passionate about classic cars and collectables of all kinds.  He was a gifted woodworker and created all kinds of useful items for family and friends.

Jerry was the king of one-liners and dad jokes – an affliction he clearly passed on to his kids.  He was certainly the funniest guy he ever met!  Laughter was always present – it was his never-ending gift to us all.

Jerry is survived by his three children and seven grandchildren, of whom he was an incredibly proud Dad and Papa Jerry:

Suzanne Gay (Al) of Aiken, South Carolina (Alex Gay - Dayton, Ohio, Alaina Schwieterman (Luke) - Knoxville, Tennessee, Miranda Gay - Charleston, South Carolina)

J.B. Hoy (Rachael) of Portland, Oregon (Riley and Keira Hoy - Portland, Oregon)

Jim Hoy (Danielle) of Groveport, Ohio (Cameron and Nathan Hoy - Groveport, Ohio)

Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Dave Burgess.

Jerry touched the lives of many people. A special thank you goes out to all who he called friend, especially those that supported him when he needed it the most.

The family will conduct a private graveside ceremony. A Celebration of Life for all will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Logan, Ohio on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 12 PM. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until time of service.
