Joseph Brendan Howdyshell, age 35 of Logan, Ohio passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio following a valiant 14 year battle against cancer.
Born December 31, 1986 in Logan, Ohio, he was the son of Harley David and Mary Catherine (Blosser) Howdyshell.
Joe was a 2005 graduate of Logan High School, where he played both football and baseball for the Chieftains. He was an avid fan of many sports but his love for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds went unmatched. Joe was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Logan and former member of the Moose Lodge in Logan. He spent a lot of time and got a lot of enjoyment from housesitting and dogsitting for his family and friends. When he was stronger, he and his dad would spend days deer hunting and making maple syrup from scratch.
Joe never let his illness keep him down, as he was a friend to everyone and inspiration to many more. He will also be missed by his K-9 buddies, Zeke and Rex. Family vacations were always a highlight, enjoying special moments with those he loved. More than anything, Joe adored his uncle role to his nieces, nephews and friends’ kids. They were the light of his life and they loved their “Joe Howdy”.
Besides his parents, Joe is survived by one brother, Jacob Henry (Stephanie) Howdyshell of Hide-A-Way Hills, Ohio; one sister, Molly Irene (Chris) Welsh of Gahanna, Ohio; grandfather, Paul Blosser of Logan; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and countless friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Roberts Funeral Home in Logan with Deacon Donald A. Robers officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family suggests donations in his memory may be made to the college fund established for his nieces and nephews at Merchants Bank. Checks may be made payable to Harley D. or Mary C. Howdyshell, noting “In Memory of Joseph B. Howdyshell” in the memo section.
