Lilia Gomez Gay, aged 85 of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, formally of Logan and Lancaster, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at The OSU Wexner Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was a seven-year survivor of T-cell Lymphoma.
Born September 24, 1938 in Manila, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Leopoldo and Rosalina (Grepo) Gomez.
Lilia was a former member of St. John Catholic Church in Logan and The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Lancaster. She was also a former TWIG member of Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. Lilia was a true golf enthusiast that enjoyed playing with her family and friends of many years in Florida, Logan and Lancaster. Most of all, she was a very proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Alfonso (Suzanne) Gay Jr. of Aiken, South Carolina; three daughters, Shirley Schmitter of Westerville, Ohio, Catherine Gay of Lancaster, Ohio and Christine (Matt) Shaw of Rockbridge, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Nicole Schmitter, Emily (Dan Kitko) Schmitter, Alex and Miranda Gay, Alaina (Luke) Schwieterman, Isaac (Hannah) Shaw and Clare, Max, Ben and Sophie Shaw; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Kyler Hiltner; one sister, Christina (Reynoldo) Moscardon of California and two sisters-in-law, Gloria and Lourdes Gomez.
Besides her parents, Lilia was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso Young “Al” Gay Sr. M.D.; and two brothers, Augusto and Donato Gomez.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at St. John Catholic Church- Logan, officiated by Fr. Stephen L. Krile.
A private family inurnment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery- Lancaster, Ohio.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5-7 PM at Roberts Funeral Home- Logan.
