Mark James Zimmer, age 59 of Delaware, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 after a prolonged illness at his residence.
Born July 21, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio, he is the son of Harold James “Zeke” and Yancey Ann (Roberts) Zimmer.
Mark is a graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School, class of 1979 where he was the first four-time high school, Ohio State wrestling champion. At 16 years of age, he was world champion. He was a two-time All American and he came in second at the 1984 Olympic Trials. Mark received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma University in political science and recreation in 1985. He continued at Oklahoma University as an assistant wrestling coach. More recently he volunteered as a wrestling coach at St. Francis DeSales High School. He worked for Continental Inc., as the director of sales in flooring. He was an active member of The Abruzzi Club playing bocce. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Joyce (Cole) Zimmer, a daughter, Lauren Cole Zimmer of Grandview, Ohio; three brothers, Patrick Joseph (Kimberly) Zimmer of Columbus, Ohio, Michael Thomas (Meta) Zimmer of Norman, Oklahoma, John Matthew (James Stewart) of Arundel, United Kingdom; one sister, Christine Marie (Patrick)McCarthy of Cleveland, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
There where be a private family service followed by a memorial service at a later date.
