It is with a heavy heart we must announce that Michael Dale Stephenson was called home on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Son of Kermit Stephenson and the late Karolyn (Dufford) Stephenson.
He was born January 25, 1963 in Logan, Ohio where he lived and served his community and surrounding communities his entire life through his dedication, love and commitment to public service, history and friendship. Mike has touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. Mike was a top notch paramedic working for Logan Hocking Emergency Medical Services and also Vinton County EMS. Mike loved his career as a paramedic and was always patient, kind and never let a teachable moment pass. He was always teaching and encouraging others to go after what they wanted in life. Mike was a part time firefighter for Logan Fire Department and volunteered for Monday Creek. He taught first aid classes and at one point also worked for the Hocking County Coroner’s office.
Mike served as head Scout Master to troop 236 from 1990 to 2007 volunteering countless hours to record keeping, fundraising, planning and working events. He cared deeply for his scouts and any problem a member of his troop faced became his problem and they faced it together. The high adventure trips were special to him because these trips allowed his scouts opportunities to gain life experiences they may not have experienced otherwise. Mike always wanted the best for others and poured his heart and soul into any project he spearheaded.
His love of genealogy and history filled many hours of his spare time. Mike has spent countless hours meeting and interviewing people to put together an extensive genealogy project for our family. He also posted stories on the New Straitsville, Ohio: History and Vintage Photos Facebook page, to tell the stories of the Gold Star Men. Mike was diligent in gathering accurate information to tell their stories to honor them and their families. The New Straitsville History Group will have his work on permanent display in the Dunkle Hall Museum.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother Karolyn Stephenson and great niece Lucy Faith Kemper. He is survived by his father Kermit (Janice) Stephenson, sister Christine (Dustin) Duke, and his nephew Nicolas (Colleen) Kemper and great nephew Levi Kemper, nephew Luke (Autumn) Kemper and great niece Willow Kemper, niece Josie (Jacob) Barstow and nephew Colin Duke as well as bonus family Devon (Amber) Householder and their children Bentley and Briley, long time friend Mark Batemen and Foster son Tony Darnell.
